Our research-funding program is based on conducting initial short-term pilot studies involving a sufficient number of patients to determine the statistical significance of the nutritional intervention in a particular condition. Successful results are then followed by longer-term studies to be compared with control groups following currently recommended dietary recommendations.
Listed below are the research studies sponsored by the Inflammation Research Foundation that will commence in 2004.
(1) Treatment of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease at Harvard Medical School. There is currently no viable therapeutic option for these patients and our research will determine the extent that nutrition intervention can improve their mental cognition.
(2) Treatment of ADD in children at Harvard Medical School. The goal of this study is to demonstrate that nutritional intervention offers an evidence-based nutritional alternative to Ritalin and other psychotropic drugs.
(3) Treatment of pediatric obesity at the Las Vegas Heart Foundation. The goal of this study is to demonstrate appropriate nutritional intervention can realistically reverse pediatric obesity.
(4) Reduction of inflammation in cardiovascular patients after stent surgery at the Boston University School of Medicine. The goal of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of nutritional intervention in the reduction of elevated inflammation in these patients.
(5) Determination of the use of high-dose fish oil at Harvard Medical School to prevent metastasis in patients with prostate cancer.
